About Gary McCaslin
Gary McCaslin is a professional artist and educator whose work captures the nuanced beauty and emotional resonance of representational landscapes. Rooted in the tradition of impressionistic plein air painting, Gary’s art is known for its vibrant brushwork, expressive color and strong sense of place—particularly reflecting the rugged charm and atmospheric light of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Gary’s passion lies in helping others slow down, observe deeply and engage creatively with the natural world. As a full-time resident of the U.P. since 2017, he has cultivated a deep love for its iconic vistas—Lake Superior’s dramatic shoreline, towering pines, hidden waterfalls and changing seasons. These places not only inspire his own work but also form the foundation of the immersive painting experiences he offers.
Through “Paint-Out's,” Gary shares his love for painting outdoors by guiding others to “capture the view and create a memory.” Whether teaching tourists to paint their first landscape, creating intimate commissioned studies of vacation properties, or producing seasonal series for collectors, Gary’s work is driven by a desire to connect people with nature through art.
His business, Gary McCaslin Art Experiences, reflects his belief that painting is both a personal journey and a shared experience—one that can enrich vacations, deepen local ties, and celebrate the beauty of the Upper Peninsula.
